Julia Solans is a Barcelona-based illustrator and communicator. After studying Political Science—which turned her into a lifelong fighter—she discovered her true passion, illustration, while working at a movie theater box office.

She has worked as an art director at several advertising agencies and as a campaign advisor at Barcelona City Council (2016–2020). She is proud not to work for clients she can’t stand.

In her parallel life, she gives talks on topics such as the creative process and anxiety (Blanc! Fest, 2017), as well as graphic protest as a tool for social change (Design with Impact, 2020; Selected, 2021). She has also hosted award ceremonies (Laus 2019, FAD Delta 2021), moderated roundtables, and conducted interviews—including those with Moderna de Pueblo (Los capullos regalan flores, 2024), Laura Camps (No nos da la vida, 2025), and Carlota Juncosa (El motor creativo, 2024)—and co-organized PechaKucha BCN at the Design Museum alongside Oscar Guayabero (2015–2018).

Since 2021, she has hosted design-focused programs on Catalan public television, including her most recent shows: De la cullera a la ciutat (3cat, 2024) and Helvètica, un programa de disseny (Tv2Cat, 2021–2023). In 2024–2025, she also joined Catalunya Ràdio as a contributor on Montse Virgili’s Dones i dies, where she talks about design from a female perspective. She believes design can change the world.

She lives with her cat Rita—her longest relationship—and they are happily writing the mewsletter Gatos.
